The current unrest in South Africa has yielded its first Ugandan victim – a music ‘maestro’, Mike Kayongo a.k.a OMG (The Music man).
Moles have learnt that following the xenophobic violence, the Ugandan musician who has lived in Durban since 2009, was among the first to head for the airport. Not knowing that most Ugandans are aware of the happenings in SA, sources tell us that when he landed at Entebbe Airport on Saturday night, he told all and sundry how he had heard a voice and received a vision that told him to come back to Uganda and dislodge the likes of Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool. “I had a vision where God gave me a book, a pen and with a strange big voice said to me- go and conquer the Ugandan music scene,” he said at the Entebbe Airport Arrival Lounge. Some onlookers laughed while others paid keen attention!
The singer’s sudden appearance comes at a time Ugandan sangomas in South Africa, like Ivan Ssemwanga and Katsha risk losing their fortunes. They too are contemplating to return home.
