Timaya show promoter Cox Kibedi of Kayan promotions and Suudi Lukwago of Suudiman International exchanged bitterly after the confusion and anti-climax that marred Timaya double concerts in Jinja and Entebbe.
Even though Suudi put in a shift creating the hype, he is faulted for crumbling the show. “Suudi is responsible for everything bad that happened at the concert. I have to clear my name before the media and some of the sponsors,” Kibedi said on phone.
We have however exclusively learnt that the two developed misunderstandings after main sponsor Club beer delayed to endorse their budget for the concert. They had reportedly struck a deal of about sh800m to kick off the regional mega fest concerts but the sponsors Club took some time assessing the budget.
Fuelled by greed, they sought for alternative sponsors but owing to the short time span, Suudi managed to bring on Power Horse Energy drink and Victoria University on board.
Cox used his NRM and Busoga connections and wanted it changed to the Kyabazinga ‘Girl Power” fundraiser concert. Still, he was fed on promises and yet logistics had to me met with time running out. Club came to their rescue.
We also understand that even though Club finally agreed to finance the shows, it never put the two directly in charge of the finances, which caused a wider rift between the two.
Suudi wasn’t readily available for comment. We have heard from Cox Kibedi that it was Club beer and not them responsible for paying singer A pass, who snubbed the concerts for non-payment.
