Singer Bebe Cool has finally accepted that his recent loss at the MTV Africa Music Awards provided him real-life lessons. They made him realize that there is a lot that needs to be done differently about Uganda’s music industry.
He made the confession at Protea Hotel on Wednesday during a press launch of his Friends of Bebe cool concert. “Of course, if I won, you would have known the real Bebe Cool. Following the loss, I talked to Dr (Chameleone) Sauti Sol and did some soul searching.
Devoid of his usual pomp, Bebe Cool admits that if ever Ugandan artistes are to dislodge the Nigerian musicians for the global and continental awards, corporate companies need to be at the helm in promoting the artistes.
“These awards (BET, MTV awards are a business. You have advertisers like MTN Nigeria, Glo and Vodacom South Africa) running ads on these shows. If Ugandan corporate companies don’t advertise on these platforms, as artistes, we can only do so much.
The Friends of Bebe Cool’s concert happens on August 7 at Serena Hotel Victoria Hall and he claims to have already sold 35 VIP tables. Some of his main sponsors are SMS One, Pepsi, Absolut Vodka, Hello Food, Liquid Silk and Chano 8 magazine.
