For a while now, the song, Doper-than-dope has been a club banger, played in the main hour by Dj’s in all the popular clubs around town. And while many thought that because the song, delivered in patois with vocals laid on mad-Jamaican-esque percussion, was Jamaican, the Kampala Sun can reliably reveal that the artist who sang the song is Ugandan.
“The song was sung by Ugandan artist based in the diaspora, Sekamatte Kawuma alais Sk. He has been living in Melbourne and returned only recently to embrace the success of his song back home” said our source.
The artist is however largely known and while he has thrown vehement darts at getting publicity locally, his efforts have hit a cul de sac as many Ugandans are finding it hard to believe a Ugandan would so such a song. And as such, according to a source, he isn’t the celebirity he thinks he should be even after numerous TV and radio interviews as he is easily ignored. “In bars, when the poor chap, with the rugged facial appeal tries to woo a girl with lines that paint him as one who sang the song, the girls jeer immediately and walk away, dismissing him as just another of the many drunk wannabe’s who spew their dreams as propaganda when zonked” said a close source to the artist.
