For the past couple of weeks, media (social and print) has been rippling with sorrowful tales that singer Jackie Chandiru is on the verge of committing suicide. The cause of her depression, it has widely been told, was failure to manage a number of personal problems. While rumour continues to circulate, The Kampala Sun has reliably been informed that the singer’s deteriorating health was accelerated by drug abuse. We have been informed of the drug in question but without an independent verification, we cannot say for sure. But the rumour of Chandiru’s drug abuse problem refuses to unshackle.
What we can, however, say for sure is that Chandiru was moved from the secret hospital in Kabalagala, where she was being nursed, to Mulago Hospital after her condition worsened.
Sources within Chandiru’s family circles say that the singer has developed a rare type of disease that requires part of her body parts being harvested and reinvested in her other parts. The medical process is called grafting.
“Parts of the flesh on her legs are being cut to replace the affected areas on her arms. The parts affected are the parts of the arms she often used to inject herself with the drug,” said a family member.
We wish Chandiru all the best and a quick recovery
