In her nine year career, Anne Kansiime has hardly taken a media or public bashing. And going by what took place at her I am Kansiime show at Imperial Royale Hotel on Holy Thursday, it is going to remain that way for a while. People just love this girl, and to harshly criticise her may call for a beating from her overzealous fans (often called Kansiime’s ninjas). The start was low on laughter, and slow in pace. Then we were moved back to Kansiime’s start of career. The MC got it wrong when he stated that she started off with Fun Factory. It was with Theatre Factory. It was easy to forget that blunder, for Fun Factory out up some hilarious stuff.
Then there was Kansiime driving her audience which way she wanted, involving them in responses from time to time. Then there was Yvone Chaka Chake who teased, danced and sang like she was not the 51-year-old. It was not like a mother-daughter show, but rather like a show of two 20-year-olds. And then most people got up from their seats, forgetting about VVIP status or the evening gowns and make-up. If there is something Kansiime achieved, it was to make all of us feel young again. If Kansiime asked those who attended to come again, many would.
