Uganda Christian University came back to winning ways by securing a hard fought 2-1 win against the champions MUBS in the University Football League on Tuesday at UCU grounds.
Amos Muwonge’s late goal gave UCU three points against champions MUBS.
UCU maintains its record of not losing any game against the Nakawa-based university since they joined the league. The hosts came into this game having lost their opener to Gulu University 1-0 in Gulu. Amos Muwonges brace gives the home team three points at home to recover from the loss.
In the first minute of the game Muwonge received a through pass from Joshual Kirathe to put the ball in the back of the net to put the hosts in the lead.
After that they continued pressing on to look for the second goal but they nearly missed an open chance when the goal scorer headed out to deny the home team a second goal.
As time went on MUBS started pressing on to the hosts but the goal keeper was alert to put his team in the lead before the break.
MUBS equalized in the 64th minute to level the game. Isma Kiwawulo took a free kick from 30yards to the right corner of the goal posts to go in the back of the net.
Five minutes to the end of the game Amos scored UCU’S second goal and a brace to make it 2-1 for the hosts.
UCU’S assistant coach Christian Magoba said team work helped them to win the game. “Attitude and playing under instructions helped us to get three points, thanks to the boys.”
