The preparations for the development of a memorial monument in remembrance of the late Abbey Dhaira, a former Uganda Cranes ‘goalkeeper who died on 27/03/2016 is underway.
This, and a cancer run that has been organized by the fallen heroes’ family that took yesterday, Thursday (906/2016)morning in Jinja town are apart of the many feats directed at raising funds to build the monument at Abbey Dhaira’s memorial stadium in Walukuba. The small suburb that bred most of the talented Eastern players including the late(Abbey Dhaira).
The monument that has been budgeted to the tune of 30m will be built using granite and mable stones to beautify the statue that is going to stand above the stadium,says Faisal Mayemba the coordinator of the work.
“We hope to raise some good amount of money out of the run and it shall be used to build the facility that is going to be used as a memorable structure for our former boy,” Faisal.
The run is going to be graced by the prime minister of Busoga Dr.Joseph Muvawala who is also going to be the chief runner for the run that is expected to start at 7:00am early in the morning from Jinja SS school where the late attained his O and A level certificates between 2002 and 2004 respectively.
The headteacher of the school Diana Nyago has already bought 100 tickets worth 1m to also be part of the runners together with the whole sporting community from Jinja and Kampala.
Dhaira died of cancer from Landspítali hospital in Reykjavík after suffering for a long period of time in Iceland where he was also playing his proffesiional football IBV.
