Muyingo Wilfred Mukasa, Uganda, (Marathon, 5000m) has won the National Junior Championship atop hordes of other athletics titles around the country. Ronnie Twinamasiko had an interview with him.
Born 1 April 1976, Mukono, Uganda; 1.8m; 82kg
Wilfred started running while in primary school, in his first major completion, he emerged 2nd best at the national junior championship in Mbale-1990, in another fete during his high school days at Kyambogo college school-1994, he notched 3rd position at the national championship at fort portal, and in 2000 as part of the Makerere University athletics team in the inter university games and East African inter university games, he participated so well that his University emerged overall winners at both events.
After competing at all levels during his education, he was encouraged to pursue track and field career which he doubled with part time secondary school teacher.
He has maintained a low profile despite participating in all major long distance races locally and in the East and central region most notably, the MTN Kampala marathon – Uganda,The Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon –Kenya, Kilimanjaro Marathon – Tanzania, and the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon, Zimbabwe.
