OnyangoCAF African footballer of the year, Dennis Onyango will miss Uganda’s final game in the Africa Cup of Nations against Mali having failed to recover from an injury, coach Micho has said.
The 29-year-old, who starred as Uganda fell to narrow losses against formidable Egypt and Ghana sat out the last two training sessions with injury. He is likely to be replaced by either of Robert Odongkara and El Merriekh’s Salim Jamal.
“Onyango has been ruled out of the match because of injury. He was not even able to train in Odyek,” a team member revealed to Kawowo Sports.
The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper was in scintillating form during Uganda Cranes’ opening two matches against Ghana Black Stars and the Egypt Pharaohs that Uganda lost 1-0.
He looked uncomfortable in the later stages of the game against Egypt.
Two other players; defender Timothy Awany, who features for KCCA and Finnish based striker Yunus Junior Sentamu are also doubtful for the game. Awany is sick whilst Sentamu is reported to be on a suspension over an ‘indiscipline incident’.
