Battle lines have been drawn and warning shots fired. As the bickering between State Minister for Health (General Duties), Hon. Sarah Opendi and National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Chairman Tanga Odoi rages, it is turning out into a case of how many skeletons are left in the closets, rather than who is right.
The Kampala Sun learns that after Opendi suggested at a Church fundraising function in Tororo that Odoi takes a mental examination to establish whether he is in full control of his faculties, he had an apt rebuttal.
Responding to Opendi’s claims, Odoi claims that the minister’s ire stems from unrequited love, when they were still young. “I refused to take Hon. Sarah Opendi as my girlfriend,” He says in relation to the mental case claims.
Tanga Odoi explains that Hon. Sarah Opendi who wasn’t even the prettiest supermodel/ girl on the village communicated about her mutual attraction but he ‘switched off’ at her boldness and flirty ways. He reckons she hasn’t taken the rejection lightly after all those years. “I wasn’t interested in her at all,” he said and hinted he would press charges for defamation after following the right channels in the party. Odoi is wary that their bickering could cost the NRM votes in the long run.
In a televised news clip, Hon. Opendi claims that Tanga Odoi had been defaming her and accusing her of witchcraft; allegations which Tanga Odoi denied. For one known to start arguments even in an empty room, it is not the last we have heard from the confrontational Tanga Odoi!
