Eskom Uganda has marked 6 years 7 months (3,000,000 man-hours) and 500 days without lost time injuries to its employees and contractors respectively. This is a demonstration of our strong zero harm culture that has helped Eskom Uganda promote safe, healthy and decent work. These statistics demonstrate that Zero harm is possible if all workers believe that they can make a difference in preventing occupational diseases and injuries.
Speaking at the celebration at Nalubaale dam , Managing Director Thozama Gangi said Eskom is modest about this epic achievement, aware that attaining safety and health for all at our workplaces is an indefinite journey.Through this achievement, Eskom Uganda has been able to contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 8 that focuses on making decent work a reality.
Thozama noted that “Everyone has a role in work place safety and health. We can only truly succeed in keeping all our workplaces safe and healthy for everyone, if we all play our part. Whether you are a Director, Manager, Supervisor, Employee or Contractor, no contribution is too small”.
“This great achievement reminds us of the lessons we embrace from our five core values;
Zero Harm: We must strive to ensure Zero Harm to employees, contractors, the public and environment.
Integrity: We must demonstrate the quality of being honest and morally upright by adhering to workplace health and safety practices.
Innovation: We must go beyond the status quo and find ways to work safer and smarter.
Customer Satisfaction – We must engage our customers to promote a safety focused culture.
Excellence – We must embrace a strong zero harm culture”, she concluded.
The celebration included drill demonstration by the security Agency working with Eskom, presentation of gifts and staff brain buster competitions.
Together, let’s turn Vision Zero into a reality, for all our workers to return home safe and healthy every day.
