Isa Kagiri, a, k.a, Jan-Lian, a blind psychologist is hunting for a music promoter to take his music to the next level.
Kagiri, in his late 20’s and a graduate of Makerere University says he has written many songs, mostly on behavior change, among them, a song titled “disability is not inability” in which he cautions society against discriminating people with disability.
Another song titled ‘gumboots ’referring to condoms, which he advises people who cannot abstain or be faithful to their partners to use so as to avoid contracting sexually transmitted illnesses like HIV/AIDS.
He also gets gigs to sing at different events, especially for youth and adolescents, and has produced some songs, but despite the evidence of his music, some people have turned him down because of his disability.
“I have tried to get a music promoter but in vain, the moment I enter into their offices, and discover I’m blind, they come up with excuses to get rid of me without even giving me a chance to listen to my music,” he says
“I have the voice, the message, but sending my message out there is still very hard because people judge me according to my disability, and not my talent. But I have the ambition, and determined to become the first blind psychologist to hit the music scene in Uganda, all I need is a music promoter to push my music career to the next level,” he says
Kagiri, a Muslim by religion says has been singing since childhood, at school, in churches, but he wants to go national now.
If you are a music promoter, you could be the one Kagiri is looking for to make his dream of becoming a household name as the first blind psychologist in Uganda come true
