Some Ugandan celebrities descended on Kampala streets to demonstrate against the unpopular social media and mobile money tax which came into effect on July 1st.

The demonstration was organized by among others Hon. Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine who was joined by other musicians like A Pass, Nubian Lee, journalist Raymond Kataaha, Joel Ssenyonyi all clothed in red t-shirts and caps as they shouted “This tax must go”.

The group started marching from Mini Price before they were intercepted by Police and KCCA enforcement officers near the City Square.

The MP along with a few other colleagues from Parliament, together with local musicians, media practitioners and rights activists have been compelling the government to repeal the Shs. 200 daily tax on social media.

However, the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has since recalled the house this week to look into possible revisiting of the unpopular tax on social media and also Mobile Money transactions.
