Well, incase you have been wondering why singer Khalifa Aganaga suddenly got his eyes on the Rubaga South parliamentary seat, he has revealed that it is not to oppose government policies but to fight the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS). According to Aganaga, UPRS has mastered the art of milking local artiste as he was last paid five years ago and is nolonger apart of it.
“That is why I am going to parliament because then they will call the people managing UPRS to a committee to answer how they determine who gets how much and for what period? They will tell us how much they give Fik Fameica or John Blaq. Or someone like Lil Pazo,” he explains.
He adds that he has been around and has made his money and is not interested in opposing the government. “This is what it taking me to parliament, not to oppose the government. If they can bring back issues of Greenland Bank that was closed years ago UPRS will not survive.”
The Rubaga South seat Aganaga wants is currently occupied by Kato Lubwama, another entertainer who seem not to have a problem with UPRS but those that are not entertainers looking to benefit from their art.
However, UPRS says most of the artistes bashing them aren’t even registered members and they now plan to start giving the money to the artistes publicly to cut down on their noise.
