Yesterday, Daniel Walyemera, a lawyer representing Pastor Joseph Kabuleta was denied access to his client
Kabuleta, a renowned government and President Museveni critic is currently being held at the Special Investigations Division (SID) in Kireka.
The act has prompted his followers, relatives and family dressed in black T-shirts to camp at the police facility on Tuesday demanding for his release.
He was arrested by plain clothed police detectives at Drew and Jacs Restaurant in Lugogo ahead of his Friday evening fellowship and faces charges of offensive communication.
Police said Kabuleta falsely called President Yoweri Museveni a “gambler”, “thief” and all sorts of other names.
Peacefully, they held each other’s hands into prayer before they were interrupted by police.
“We are here to pray for our beloved person so that God paves way for him to access full justice. We pray for him to be able to be taken to court and also see his lawyer’ said one of his relatives outside SIU offices in Kireka,” they said.
After his arrest, it was only Kabuleta’s doctor and family members that were granted access to see him.
Charles Twine, the spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, however, said it is not right for Kabuleta or anyone to be denied access to their lawyer.
“It is not proper for any suspect to be denied access to his lawyers, if this is the case, I will talk to the management of police to ensure he gets his lawyers.” Twine said
