City Tyres boost USPA Road safety

The Lugazi community will not only benefit from the two zebra crossings USPA and UNRA are painting in the area as part of the Road Safety Campaign, but will also win more goodies during the celebrations on Saturday in Lugazi.

After the painting of a Zebra crossing in the two black spots in Lugazi, there will be two cycling competitions as part of the USPA road safety celebrations in memory of the fallen executive members.

The road safety campaign is in memory of the four USPA executive members Leo Kabunga, Francis Batte, Kenneth Matovu and Simon Peter Ekarot who perished in a road accident in August 2001.

Besides the professional elite cyclists who run the 21km race, there will be a race for the community members and the winner will get a mountain bike worth sh1.5m.

“It is a new innovation and a legacy USPA and City Tyres road safety campaign will leave in the area,” Herbert Bashasha the City Tyres marketing manager, said.

The company, through its Supreme brand, committed sh10m to this year’s campaign.

USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi said that the new innovations are meant to keep the campaign relevant to the community and also for mobilization purposes.

“The new innovations of blood donation, painting of Mulago hospital casualty ward and cycling competitions will help as sensitize the people on responsibility on the roads,” Kanyomozi said.

“This will reduce help reduce road accidents that are claiming the lives of many and also crippling the future labour force,” he added.
