We all remember a time last year, when singer Irene Ntale almost made us wonder whether she was relocating to Nigeria. Rumour even had it that she was dating Nigeria’s Don Jazzy a fellow musician. Well we have now learnt that while in Lagos, Nigeria, she was busy trying to negotiate her terms of contract with the label. Last week she appeared at the Western meet concert at Hockey grounds. We had not seen her publically out since last year and today she was at a Kansanga based radio station announcing that she had just inked a major deal with Universal Music Group Nigeria (UMGNG). A household name in Uganda and East Africa with over 10 million streams and downloads. Here she also released her first her first single, Nyamba.
“I want all my fans to fall in love with this song and they should cram the lyrics, record themselves while singing to the song and posting them to my social media accounts. The winner will walk away with $1000 (about sh3m).” she said.
She was escorted by the general manager of Universal Music Group Nigeria Ezegozie Eze who said the Group is excited to have Ntale join the family. She is an extremely talented artist and her dedication to her craft has paid off in East Africa, he said.
Ntale’s deal with the entertainment company goes beyond music, she will also be partnering with U-Live Africa (a division of Universal Music Group Nigeria) to produce her annual concert Ntale Live, which debuted in 2018 with a sold out show at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
She joins Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage at the same record label; so far there are two females there. Other musicians on the label include all the Marvin singers in Nigeria, apart from Korede Belo.
