The 2019 Media Awards organised by the Media Challenge Initiative came with a stunning fashion sense. Held at the Kampala Serena hotel on November 24, the awards sought to recognise outstanding media personalities, media houses, and media students who have made a formidable impact in the media industry. Away from the awards, fashion sense was in high order on the green carpet.
The green carpet was an inspiration of this season’s media challenge theme, “Reporting on climate change and disaster risk reduction”. A fortnight ago, media students from different institutions convened at the Xanadu collections hotel, Kampala, in a live mobile newsroom experience showcasing their skill in news reporting and anchoring. The awards were given to the students that proved best in the entire season.
The awards were initiated five years back though the annual journalism competition at universities in Uganda, was birthed in 2012 with an aim of creating the next generation of critical journalists who advance positive development and social change.
Here are some of the moments captured during the night.
