The Sarrai group a conglomerate with numerous subsidiaries operating in several districts across the country has donated an assortment of items worth UGX 300m to the COVID-19 National Task Force at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The items that included 10,000 litres of sanitizers, 20,000kgs of sugar, 10,000kgs of laundry bar soap and 10,000kgs of baking flour are purposed to advantage and offer significant support to the government’s emergency relief activities for the various vulnerable groups geared towards curbing COVID-19 pandemic across the country.
The group whose values are premised on principles of strong community ties and livelihood enhancement understands the plight that the nation is going through and therefore takes such an opportunity that creates a real difference to individual families with great importance.
‘’We do understand that our nation is going through unprecedented times which require collective effort and responsibility which has to be undertaken with a lot of dynamism and selflessness with a collective goal of fighting the pandemic.’’ Sekhar Veedhi a representative of the group said.
He further emphasized that the Sarrai group remains committed to offering its customers and the general public with quality affordable products in the spirit of enabling equitable access to basic products through these unfavourable times.
The Sarrai group is the parent company to Nile Plywoods, Engaano millers, Tasco Industries, Hoima Sugar and Kinyara Sugar among others.
The Prime minister of Uganda Rt. Hon Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda expressed gratitude upon receipt of the items which were part of a big consignment received from other stakeholders. He pledged that the donations will be put to their intended use through a specialized committee selected by His Excellency the President of Uganda.
