Nigeria has proved to be one of the African countries that has talented singers and at least each year, a new comer is welcome and before they know, Africa and the world knows the name. Last year, Fireboy DML from nowhere emerged on the Nigerian scene and has done songs like Vibration and What if I say. Unlike new kid Joeboy who has performed in Uganda and collaborated with Fik Fameica, DML’s Ugandan show was cancelled because of the pandemic.
As we are still in lockdown, the name Oxlade from Nigeria has arrived in Uganda. Oxlade whose real names is Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan broke through with his song titled Away which started in Nigerian and has made its way to Ugandan airwaves. Away by Oxlade is off his Extended Play (EP) album with six songs and the others include O2, Tables Turn, Mamiwota, Hold On and Kokose.
The singer in an interview explained the inspiration from his song since the title O2 left many wondering why he had to borrow from the name of the O2 Arena in London. The singer said it was after he shared stage with Davido at O2 Arena in London when his girlfriend left him. In Nigeria, Oxlade is matched with musical bigwigs like Wizkid and Wande Coal.
