Diamond Platnumz is now the only African musician to hit one billion views on YouTube.
Diamond achieved the fete after sharing at least 600 videos that entail music, behind the scenes, and tour performances.
His videographer a one Lukamba went on Instagram to share a congratulatory message with the WCB CEO.
He said, “This was not easy thing to achieve BILLION thanks to the fans a BILLION congratulations to the boss.
The 30-year-old singer becomes the first sub- Saharan African singer to get one billion views on his YouTube Channel.
Over the last 10 years, the award-winning musician has popularised “bongo flava” with romantic melodies with an urban beat influenced by traditional taarab music from the East African coast.
In sub-Saharan Africa, Diamond Platnumz’s main competitors in the YouTube numbers game are Nigerian Afrobeats stars.
These include P Square – 810 million, Davido – 618 million, Flavour – 617 million, Tekno 574 million, Burna Boy – 507 million, Wizkid – 480 million.
Diamond Platnumz has been on the platform since 2011.
K-pop Stars, Yemi Alade, Sinach, C4 Pedro, Magic System and Eddy Kenzo are some of other African stars with relatively huge You Tube audiences.
