City businessman, Charles Mbire’s daughter Nadia Mbire Matovu said comedienne Anne Kansiime and former president, Idi Amin are the most popular Ugandans abroad. She particularly hailed Kansiime’s content generation acumen for being unmatched.
“Anne Kansiime is very popular. Her work ethic is top notch. Actually, everytime I travel, and say I am from Uganda, it is two things, either Idi Amin or Anne Kansiime. They call her the funny lady. She is more than a comedienne now,” she said.
Nadia had one of the most talked about weddings in Uganda after they flew to South Africa where she tied the knot with Yassar Matovu in 2016, with performances from the Soweto Strings Quartet, Burnaboy and Tevin Campbell. Now she says the wedding made her an international celebrity, earning her a sizable following on social media from across the world.
“My social media following blew up during my wedding in 2016 by about 5,000 followers in about three to four months. I was on Bella Naija so I got many Nigerian followers. I was featured on a South African magazine and blogs, that was how I started getting international followers. The demographics show 54% Ugandans, the rest are from Kenya, Nigeria, UK and US. Brands are literally sleeping on me. They got to call my PA,” she explained.
She added that before she quit Twitter, she was followed by American rapper 50 Cent and US president Joe Biden.
Nadia said all that while appearing on a podcast.
